RES. 364</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210430">April 30, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="J000295">Mr. Joyce of Ohio</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="R000577">Mr. Ryan</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000469">Mr. Tonko</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000483">Mr. Trone</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="J000292">Mr. Johnson of Ohio</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Acknowledging the contributions of America’s addiction professionals and their commitment to delivering evidence-based practice to individuals with substance use disorders through recognized standards of education, training, and competencies.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas the addiction professional workforce represents more than 100,000 counselors, educators, and other addiction-focused health care professionals;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas addiction professionals specialize in prevention, intervention, treatment, recovery support, and education;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas addiction professionals work across a wide variety of settings including outpatient care centers, mental health and substance use disorder facilities, general medicine and surgical hospitals, psychiatric and substance use disorder hospitals, private practices, and clinics, as well as prisons, probation agencies, juvenile detention facilities, halfway houses, detoxification centers, and more; </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas addiction professionals are addressing the full range of substance use disorders in our communities across the prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery continuum, including in the face of the current opioid crisis; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the COVID–19 pandemic is exacerbating the opioid and substance use epidemics and additional Federal investments are needed to adequately support the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders in communities across the country: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="H3819E66719AA4971BE53B48D3D913F47"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="HD62B6572685C4575873445D54056C708"><enum/><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the House of Representatives supports the delivery of evidence-based care for substance use disorder by acknowledging the contributions of addiction professionals and encourages that recognized credentials reflect the requisite knowledge, training, and competencies for delivering quality, effective substance use disorder counseling.</text></section></resolution-body></resolution>
