RES. 1323</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220816">August 16, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="C001061">Mr. Cleaver</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="G000546">Mr. Graves of Missouri</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Honoring the life of fallen Officer Daniel Vasquez and expressing condolences to his family.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas Officer Daniel Vasquez of the North Kansas City Police Department was killed in the line of duty on July 19, 2022, after performing a car stop in a neighborhood;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Office Vasquez was known as the <quote>shining star</quote> of the North Kansas City Police Department;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Office Vasquez was born on January 19, 1990, in North Kansas City and was the first of his Mexican-American family to be born in Kansas City;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Officer Vasquez began his career in security by serving both Wyandotte County and Jackson County as an <quote>Avenue Angel</quote>, preserving the safety of both the businesses and citizens in the area;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Officer Vasquez continued his service by joining the Kansas City Missouri Police Department as a detention officer;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas after years of hard work and perseverance, Officer Vasquez joined the police force in January 2021 and, after completing his training at the KCPD Regional Police Academy with graduating Class #171, was sworn into office; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the North Kansas City Police Department posthumously bestowed Officer Vasquez their Medal of Valor, a symbol of gratitude for his distinguished service and boundless bravery: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="HE2294A43953942C2B6B4F6B3DAA6E015"><section id="H57CB41EB90C848868B4F4E4E9C5090D3" section-type="undesignated-section" display-inline="yes-display-inline"><enum/><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the House of Representatives—</text><paragraph id="HFC64B7495A9B4147A298D09D9BD0DD94"><enum>(1)</enum><text>expresses condolences to the loved ones of Officer Vasquez, who has made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and whose sacrifice will not be forgotten; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H30A6A304864A4E7F88C747D595D2C95B" commented="no"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">honors the memory and legacy of Officer Vasquez and expresses that his dedication to his community will never be forgotten.</text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
