<section id="H16785B9A0BB54B1AABBB26A346E63C6A" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Make Transportation Authorities Accountable and Transparent Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H72E1739F103B446ABA70D3B5F1300EB2" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Inspector General audit on public transportation coronavirus relief spending</header> <subsection id="H65789B666A9542CFAFBAD1A97E85244D"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Inspector general audit</header> <paragraph id="H8319EDDCA6A94865AE2F7E94F8815A90"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Audit required</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The inspector general of the Department of Transportation shall conduct an audit of funds provided to each specified transit agency under the applicable laws during the 5 fiscal years ending before the date of enactment of this Act.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H20E725BBF796485E91A46AC929DB20CF"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Contents of audit</header><text>The audit conducted under paragraph (1) shall include the amount of funds received under each of the applicable laws and a description of how such funds were spent.</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HE1197FA745954CBB948D64F0D2BC0FBA"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Report to Congress</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the inspector general shall submit to Congress a report containing the results of the audit.</text> </paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="HCB8BC7EA1AB34755AEA7F09DDD002117"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this Act: </text> <paragraph id="H9FAA14388BD14DDBAC95879ECA3DF762" commented="no"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Applicable laws</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>applicable laws</quote> means the following:</text> 
<subparagraph id="H9AA54D0ED8C1425895B94CD918A55101"><enum>(A)</enum><text><external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/49/53">Chapter 53</external-xref> of title 49, United States Code.</text> </subparagraph> <subparagraph id="HEA2F55AA1E2F4873951D809E5152CFF2" commented="no"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2020.</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H0CC1BEE2015D49E7A13B0CBC86574CD2" commented="no"><enum>(C)</enum><text>The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H30B97080A62F462996F2ADEC667DB703" commented="no"><enum>(D)</enum><text>The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021.</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H387AD9F6C55D4BD4B294F155A56E5F1F" commented="no"><enum>(E)</enum><text>The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.</text> </subparagraph></paragraph> <paragraph id="HA4890C9FE5ED490B92D301FF6B29D4FA" commented="no"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Public transportation</header><text>The term <quote>public transportation</quote> has the meaning given the term in section 5302 of title 49, United States Code.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H87C2CB1DF91347198209283AA2D24D1B"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Specified transit agency</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>specified transit agency</quote> means the 5 entities providing public transportation with the most unlinked passenger trips for calendar year 2019, as reported to the National Transit Database, that received Federal funds under any of the applicable laws.</text></paragraph></subsection></section> </legis-body></bill>
