R. 8435</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220720">July 20, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S001211">Mr. Stanton</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HII00">Committee on Natural Resources</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To provide for near-term actions to preserve the Colorado River system and to amend the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to expedite measures for drought response.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HE12363CE3EBE41AC8CA5DEE6C66A041F" style="OLC"><section id="H652E92DEFF554200A5BEDA74C46B669A" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Colorado River Drought Response Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="H17B22A2B78044813B41B8055A48728AB"><enum>2.</enum><header>Near-term actions to preserve Colorado River system</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">In addition to the amounts otherwise available and consistent with contractual arrangements and applicable State and Federal law, there is authorized to be appropriated to the Secretary of the Interior $500,000,000, for the period of fiscal years 2023 through 2026, to use available legal authorities to reduce the near-term likelihood of Lake Mead and Lake Powell declining to critically low water elevations.</text></section><section id="H78FE193338274496901512BA80D1AE62"><enum>3.</enum><header>Expedited measures for drought response</header><subsection id="H01BA25B9F15842F9A4E75C010BB73503"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Expedited program implementation</header><text>Section 40905(h) of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/43/3205">43 U.S.C. 3205(h)</external-xref>; 135 Stat. 1124) is amended by striking <quote>Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act</quote> and inserting <quote>Not later than August 31, 2022</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="HB3AA8ACF53DF4734A1E9F27A3C3D1A92"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Establishment of program</header><text>Section 40907(b) of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/43/3207">43 U.S.C. 3207(b)</external-xref>; 135 Stat. 1125) is amended by striking <quote>Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act</quote> and inserting <quote>Not later than August 31, 2022</quote>.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
