R. 8378</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220714">July 14, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="C001104">Mr. Cawthorn</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To prohibit the use of Federal funds for travel expenses of any individual traveling across State lines for purposes of having an abortion, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H412E886FED7240E0BCD5C7BD0F10C400" style="OLC"><section id="HF169312324394EB6BFE2B12D602A627E" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protect Statutory Termination of Abortions from Taxpayer-funded Excursions Lines Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>Protect S.T.A.T.E. Lines Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="H5F6C2DBE382B48BFB163AAABC703D085"><enum>2.</enum><header>Prohibition on use of Federal funds for travel expenses of individuals crossing State lines for an abortion</header><subsection id="H26B7A2CA2CA24D13B2845B50DBDAEB81"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">No Federal funds may be obligated or expended for the travel expenses of any individual traveling across State lines for purposes of having an abortion. In this subsection, the term <quote>State</quote> means any of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and any territory or possession of the United States.</text></subsection><subsection id="H9B5CC5796AD94D66AB5A741629D3CC99"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Exception</header><text>The limitation in subsection (a) shall not apply to any travel expenses—</text><paragraph id="H891084B1DBD84010812D8DB283AA39CB"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">if the pregnancy is the result of an act of rape or incest; or</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H24BB775A33C344DC9D7A41EEF5418649"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in the case where a woman suffers from a physical disorder, physical injury, or physical illness, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself, that would, as certified by a physician, place the woman in danger of death unless an abortion is performed.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
