<section id="H587DD9C0086B4F128165B1860A8FCCDB" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>National Education Security Training Act of 2022</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>NEST Act of 2022</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H9C3BCDD5F49F42B8A61C1BCAD592A3D7" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Credit for qualified special law enforcement officers</header> <subsection id="HCC30400D43054EA2AC771CB3B5DFECAB"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Subpart A of part IV of subchapter A of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/26/1">chapter 1</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended by inserting after section 25D the following new section:</text>

<section id="HA365D9D0B2484D35BD8730C13E62775B"><enum>25E.</enum><header>Credit for qualified special law enforcement officers</header> 
<subsection id="H5F6DECA9E6BE488E9E7B7A8394E678FD"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Allowance of credit</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In the case of a qualified special law enforcement officer, there shall be allowed as a credit against the tax imposed by this chapter for a taxable year an amount equal to $1,500.</text></subsection> <subsection id="HFAF8720AB0104E24992A2386CBE730BD"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Qualified special law enforcement officer</header><text>For purposes of this section—</text> 
<paragraph id="HEA42C02B65744F3F8F31A9289B3EEDD3"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>The term <term>qualified special law enforcement officer</term> means an individual—</text> <subparagraph id="HA38F7365FA494AFCA6B0E67CE6C55FBF"><enum>(A)</enum><text>employed part-time by a local law enforcement agency to patrol one or more qualified schools, and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="HDCE3A93FBA18409A98DBFCF0FF3C623A"><enum>(B)</enum><text>who is, on the date such individual is first so employed, a qualified veteran or a qualified retired law enforcement officer.</text></subparagraph></paragraph> <paragraph id="H5338588396E64D1F80FEC2C2134419EF"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Qualified school</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>qualified school</term> means—</text> 
<subparagraph id="H3310CD9DF6E54D148778F5F22C652E3E"><enum>(A)</enum><text>an elementary school or secondary school (as such terms are defined in section 8101 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965), or</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="HBD5AC31A422C46A09434AD0F54D6927F"><enum>(B)</enum><text>an institution of higher education (as such term is defined in section 101 of the Higher Education Act of 1965).</text></subparagraph></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HA28F292559C449FC9F28A4C559B82340"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Qualified veteran</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>qualified veteran</term> means an individual who served in the active military, naval, or air service, and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable.</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HA1410915E5F84B43BCDA5D01D8B72AD5"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Qualified retired law enforcement officer</header><text>The term <term>qualified retired law enforcement officer</term> has the meaning given such term by section 926C of title 18, United States Code.</text></paragraph></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection> 
<subsection id="H50D528BC8347410C8DD5B9425934B557"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical amendment</header><text>The table of sections for subpart A of part IV of subchapter A of chapter 1 of such Code is amended by inserting after the item relating to section 25D the following new item:</text> <quoted-block id="H4A3D3750DAE94A459E519E8C34AC3C04" style="OLC"> <toc regeneration="no-regeneration"> <toc-entry level="section">Sec. 25E. Credit for qualified special law enforcement officers.</toc-entry></toc><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection> <subsection id="H0B60E58D73E64D14A41E7C1D10AECEEA"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to taxable years beginning after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section>
