R. 7805</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220517">May 17, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="N000147">Ms. Norton</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HGO00">Committee on Oversight and Reform</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 13, United States Code, to prohibit the use of questions on citizenship, nationality, or immigration status in any decennial census, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H14F95F5AB17D4A76BF4B345EC6535670" style="OLC"><section id="H0404A9707FA04535997483660521604B" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Ensuring Full Participation in the Census Act of 2022</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H4EABE53903AE47EE9B22E1C0607D7719"><enum>2.</enum><header>Prohibiting census questions on citizenship, nationality, or immigration status</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 141 of title 13, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="H8F50FB92E2E44603956BF3B3EA301076"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating subsection (g) as subsection (h); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HF47A61D3A1214E37B62AD6D46DB240B0"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after subsection (f) the following:</text><quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H47D1B1973BA54F8FA8973412FE700F08" style="USC"><subsection id="H49073D2E73414560A0BD4513A12E590B"><enum>(g)</enum><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="H61CD24297A14439D8E5181105DF81D9E"><enum>(1)</enum><text>Except as provided in paragraph (2), a questionnaire or survey used to carry out, or in connection with, any decennial census of population may not include any question regarding citizenship, nationality, or immigration status of the respondent, any family member of the respondent, or any individual living in the respondent’s household.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H81F9775D02884C3CA59D88E017C63866" indent="up1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Paragraph (1) shall not apply to the survey, conducted by the Secretary, commonly referred to as the <quote>American Community Survey</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
