R. 7250</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220328">March 28, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="M001180">Mr. McKinley</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S001207">Ms. Sherrill</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to provide that grants under the COPS program may be used for salary increases to retain officers.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H41B2FC1A730743CF89A35EF45EBF2882" style="OLC"><section id="H2215899A5E074B22AB57A951D32E16BB" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Retain COPS Act of 2022</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HA1A6F2DC5E0C4B2C97FB6B402DD906D2"><enum>2.</enum><header>Additional authorized use of COPS grant funds</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1701(b) of title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10381">34 U.S.C. 10381(b)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="H06C7231D4DC04976AEB68BA85763D7B6"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (23), by redesignating such paragraph as paragraph (24); </text></paragraph><paragraph id="H345D56F895BF43939E6158368FBF78D1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (22)—</text><subparagraph id="H3F50E58A0D3D4895893C841317175B94"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by redesignating such paragraph as paragraph (23); and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HAD63C7F3DD2E4AE49BB262C752E8C16E"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by striking <quote>(1) through (21); and</quote> and inserting <quote>(1) through (22); and</quote>; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="HE297FFF0A7134042A197709B8FD867EA"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by inserting after paragraph (21) the following: </text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H8E896A59BD524FBD93618A117B76A74F" display-inline="no-display-inline"><paragraph id="HC371C0F37FC1427093BB3A8197B39347"><enum>(22)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">to retain law enforcement officers by providing salary increases;</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
