R. 687</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210202">February 2, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="B001297">Mr. Buck</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="M001177">Mr. McClintock</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001189">Mr. Austin Scott of Georgia</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="H001091">Mrs. Hinson</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="W000814">Mr. Weber of Texas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000563">Mr. Gibbs</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="D000615">Mr. Duncan</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001305">Mr. Budd</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000165">Mr. Tiffany</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="H001052">Mr. Harris</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001214">Mr. Steube</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="L000589">Mrs. Lesko</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 18, United States Code, by increasing the maximum term of imprisonment for the offense of rioting, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HE173951DB3604B41B26E4B581B6447EC" style="OLC"><section id="HC9497DD6E41C4B419A1E0CBBD1FBD375" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Blocking Rioters and Insurrectionists from our Cities to Keep us Safe Act of 2021</short-title></quote> or as the <quote><short-title>BRICKS Act of 2021</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HB4AE830D61524BA9A7C7216A1E2DFCA6"><enum>2.</enum><header>Maximum penalty for rioting increased</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 2101(a) of title 18, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="HE058D325EE7E486BABB47C502699070C"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (a)—</text><subparagraph id="H7595DB3D54EC4D7DA34932E44A18238E"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking <quote>five years</quote> and inserting <quote>10 years</quote>;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H316B92FE2A104BCE870C269794A0AAAC"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following: <quote>If serious bodily injury (as such term is defined in section 2246) results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 25 years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both.</quote>; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HD29D5731E1AA446EA8C00369137202B0"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by striking <quote>subparagraph (A), (B), (C), or (D) of this paragraph</quote> and inserting <quote>paragraph (1), (2), (3), or (4) of this subsection</quote>; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="HB0C9CF139AD645989C0F559B7E4649C3"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (b), by striking <quote>subparagraph (A), (B), (C), or (D) of paragraph (1) of subsection (a)</quote> and inserting <quote>paragraph (1), (2), (3), or (4) of subsection (a)</quote>.</text></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
