R. 6784</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220218">February 18, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="M001195">Mr. Mooney</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="T000469">Mr. Tonko</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="N000147">Ms. Norton</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="P000616">Mr. Phillips</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001118">Mr. Cline</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="H001077">Mr. Higgins of Louisiana</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="W000814">Mr. Weber of Texas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001184">Mr. Massie</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001302">Mr. Biggs</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="R000609">Mr. Rutherford</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="L000578">Mr. LaMalfa</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="G000578">Mr. Gaetz</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/1/2">chapter 2</external-xref> of title 1, United States Code, to establish the style for amending laws.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H88AC80692D274B03BE6F162B5309FE77" style="OLC"><section id="H3B1EE0631E5D47D5A3E65BEC888AA8B6" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Readable Legislation Act of 2022</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H75565115340F4811BFEA87EE01701D9C"><enum>2.</enum><header>Amending laws</header><subsection id="HF81C1BD0706B46A89FD29B22BFC92D66"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/1/2">Chapter 2</external-xref> of title 1, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new section:</text><quoted-block id="H48105C1DA4A74E0CB298A8B2A5A0013F" style="USC"><section id="HAA261FBF1AE143D58B932430E2A10EB9"><enum>115.</enum><header>Amending laws</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">No section of an Act shall be revised or amended by mere reference to it. Every bill or joint resolution which amends an existing section of any Act shall set forth the entire section, showing the omissions and insertions proposed by appropriate typographical devices.</text></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection><subsection id="HA676DE8801D147E6BBA254B55CC5E0B8"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming amendment</header><text>The table of sections at the beginning of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/1/2">chapter 2</external-xref> of title 1, United States Code, is amended by adding after the item relating to section 114 the following new item:</text><quoted-block id="H26AF52A67AF8410BBECCC5BD20FD0C28" style="OLC"><toc regeneration="no-regeneration"><toc-entry level="section">115. Amending laws.</toc-entry></toc><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection></section><section id="H9FBB5946B9DE4CE7B8FE0E4E0ADC6377"><enum>3.</enum><header>Effective date</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act and the amendments made by it shall take effect on January 1, 2023.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
