R. 6700</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220209">February 9, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S001172">Mr. Smith of Nebraska</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S001185">Ms. Sewell</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HWM00">Committee on Ways and Means</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to remove the 96-hour physician certification requirement for inpatient critical access hospital services.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H99FEA636DF1045FC924692A6361EBE09" style="OLC"><section id="H23CD07F3B03C4EC1A1587326E3050BC2" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Critical Access Hospital Relief Act of 2022</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HD7F088B9E5BC41AEA0BE8D40B9952805"><enum>2.</enum><header>Removing Medicare 96-hour physician certification requirement for inpatient critical access hospital services</header><subsection id="HDFB07F3E5EF74925BE8B6806478185DF"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1814(a) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395f">42 U.S.C. 1395f(a)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="H3CF1C5004275430080639A831704FF1C"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (6), by adding <quote>and</quote> at the end;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H8D940323709B4AD4807B4C0A0E4692F1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (7), at the end of subparagraph (E), by striking <quote>and</quote> and inserting a period; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H7D08994BBDB645C5BC3BF94AA846198D"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by striking paragraph (8).</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H01A6CE1182324179ABAC23D5D50FF900"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Application</header><text>The amendments made by subsection (a) shall apply with respect to items and services furnished on or after January 1, 2023.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
