R. 6640</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220208">February 8, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="M000317">Ms. Malliotakis</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HBA00">Committee on Financial Services</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To require the Department of Housing and Urban Development to inspect certain public housing developments to ensure compliance with housing quality and safety standards, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H279A9018EAD5495F9661F77236EFE8F9" style="OLC"><section id="H55A71805FB7A46BDBF195CD4610B2E27" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Dignity in Housing Act of 2022</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H58B8EBE941DA44A8A863DAA6A83B92DB"><enum>2.</enum><header>Inspections</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Subsection (f) of section 6 of the United States Housing Act of 1937 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1437d">42 U.S.C. 1437d(f)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following new paragraph:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="HBC4FA1E9175B4B43860F8AB8B7BC363C" display-inline="no-display-inline"><paragraph id="HA6A85713E9ED41C49B07832A1D9C6E4F"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Large public housing developments</header><subparagraph id="H47C56153BCB64A6DAB4A274202800D3F"><enum>(A)</enum><header>Biennial inspections</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary shall make inspections of each public housing project consisting of 100 dwelling units or more not less frequently than biennially to determine whether the project is, and units in the project are, maintained in accordance with the requirements under paragraph (1).</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H36F249F50F03444C84D6A0303C6C9F62"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Inspectors</header><text>Inspections of a public housing project required under this paragraph shall be—</text><clause id="H628C088AC1A749FD898754DDA29A8F59"><enum>(i)</enum><text>in addition to inspections required by paragraph (3); and</text></clause><clause id="HAEE61AE06F484566BD16C2573AB08D37"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>conducted by employees of the Department of Housing and Urban Development or such other inspectors as may be obtained by the Secretary, but not including any officers or employees or a public housing agency or any agent of a public housing agency.</text></clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HA1D9165A25A84FE595D4922A6069E6F4"><enum>(C)</enum><header>Public availability</header><text>The Secretary shall make the results of inspections pursuant to this paragraph publicly available online.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
