which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to provide for a pilot program under the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Grant Program for local law enforcement agencies located in rural areas to purchase naloxone to prevent and reduce opioid overdose deaths, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H7DA248E6F7234D4F903B6B6F25F1AAF4" style="OLC"><section id="H0CBB087E6A234D0FAC31793DEDDA9BAC" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Law Enforcement Officers Preventing Drug Abuse Related Deaths Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HD66ABDCD687B4B0BB26F3D01276E2D2A"><enum>2.</enum><header>Eligibility of rural nalaxone pilot programs for funding under the Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Grant Program</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 3021 of title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10701">34 U.S.C. 10701</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="HE28653FF6FC04E56ABB67BF0EF89636A"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (a), by adding at the end the following: </text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="HA9B25DF0827E4DC188F524DADB9BE920" display-inline="no-display-inline"><paragraph id="H1226BE1E4DAE4846A4714CE76D6B205E"><enum>(11)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">A pilot program for local law enforcement agencies located in rural areas to purchase purchase opioid receptor antagonists, including naloxone, for use by officers in the line of duty, as described in subsection (f). </text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph><paragraph id="HB23B03FD12324FBC9B27C67609D34DB9"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="HA438F4756E024AD4B0A98EC721E24BDB" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="HB41DD86A12F74D639EDDEA7CE5B4425B"><enum>(f)</enum><header>Rural nalaxone pilot program</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The pilot program described under this subsection shall make grants to rural areas to implement a program for local law enforcement agencies to purchase opioid receptor antagonists, including naloxone, for use by officers in the line of duty.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section><section id="H28E33A0A97924AE69F8A976D538E4CF8"><enum>3.</enum><header>Provision regarding certain funding level for rural communities</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 3024 of title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10704">34 U.S.C. 10704</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="H4076C9024FDE4F518C299F936B2F06DF"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (1) by striking <quote>and</quote> at the end; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="H46A9590ECE484879B66E9AFFCF6C1EC7"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (2)(C) by striking the period at the end and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HC46FAE978C5643B0A94F9CC51F55F801"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following: </text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H6038D61EAA5D4ABF92844437F551A828" display-inline="no-display-inline"><paragraph id="H798489A7437445B7AF3DE97FC3A8BAEE"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">provides that no less than 50 percent of grants issued pursuant to this part shall be awarded to rural areas. </text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section><section id="HDA0583032F524292990A7FB514864ED9"><enum>4.</enum><header>Definition</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 3025 of title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10705">34 U.S.C. 10705</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="HE9F833E147A94EE082A797F512689872" display-inline="no-display-inline"><paragraph id="H5063E4A2BAE54E81B2B695F228EDCF62"><enum>(9)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>rural area</quote> have the meanings given such terms in section 343(a)(13)(A) of the Consolidated Farm and Rural Development Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/7/1991">7 U.S.C. 1991(a)(13)(A)</external-xref>). </text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
