R. 6376</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220112">January 12, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="A000378">Mrs. Axne</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="C001072">Mr. Carson</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001084">Mr. Cicilline</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="D000631">Ms. Dean</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="N000147">Ms. Norton</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="J000032">Ms. Jackson Lee</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001135">Ms. Manning</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M000312">Mr. McGovern</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="N000192">Ms. Newman</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001180">Mr. Schrader</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001205">Ms. Scanlon</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000460">Mr. Thompson of California</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="W000826">Ms. Wild</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="H001081">Mrs. Hayes</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HVR00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 38, United States Code, to extend eligibility for a certain work-study allowance paid by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to certain individuals who pursue programs of rehabilitation, education, or training on at least a half-time basis, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H9047DE7D7F844B8094DC093968D2E806" style="OLC"><section id="H29B0FD11BA1545669C8385CD1A194B02" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Student Veteran Work Study Modernization Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H4F219010C1CD481BB116F0740EF31698" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Expansion of eligibility for a certain work-study allowance paid by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to certain individuals who pursue programs of rehabilitation, education, or training on at least a half-time basis</header><subsection id="H45381129DB4F4ACFA57F7DD3D4FB7760"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Expansion</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 3485(b) of title 38, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="HAB90B1186E41459DABDDD90EB9302846"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in the first sentence, by striking <quote>three-quarters</quote> and inserting <quote>half</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H03F894720F6D4A4CB45AA780D444D622"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in the third sentence, by striking <quote>three-quarter-time</quote> and inserting <quote>half-time</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H21183533D5DE44CA802836DF0B4011FE"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Applicability date</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The amendments made by this section shall apply with respect to a quarter, semester, or term, as applicable, commencing on or after October 1, 2023.</text></subsection></section><section id="H643D6FB1A0C845C1A78D6DC904C041E9"><enum>3.</enum><header>Annual report regarding veterans who participate in work study</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act and annually thereafter, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall submit to the Committees on Veterans’ Affairs of the Senate and House of Representatives a report regarding veterans who participate in work study. Such report shall include the following elements:</text><paragraph id="HA018AF80CB814FCD9E87B848641F3E3D"><enum>(1)</enum><text>The number of such veterans.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HE56CCF5BCF54467F9625AED14D1EB28F"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The percentage of such veterans who obtain a four-year degree.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HE73F69AB0EE94581A907736E2038003E"><enum>(3)</enum><text>The number of such veterans who obtain full-time work at the Department of Veterans Affairs.</text></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
