R. 6322</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20211216">December 16, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S001196">Ms. Stefanik</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="L000564">Mr. Lamborn</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="G000578">Mr. Gaetz</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HVR00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to conduct outreach to veterans regarding identity theft resources, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HC3DC65AB78C64BC69901D942C1812CE0" style="OLC"><section id="HD4B7ED74719241BF8E353412857E9372" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>VA Safe Holidays Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H047343C692EB4CCBA75F5309BBA88B79" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Outreach to veterans regarding identity theft resources</header><subsection id="H619540F58C8C45BCA30283501BCB78EB"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Requirement</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Subchapter III of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/38/57">chapter 57</external-xref> of title 38, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new section (and conforming the table of sections at the beginning of such chapter accordingly):</text><quoted-block style="USC" id="H8177E794CF6E4522822BCD97504D2506" display-inline="no-display-inline"><section id="H899E6155CB734F369376D2AD3B0E9099"><enum>5729.</enum><header>Outreach to veterans regarding identity theft resources </header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Every year during the 10-week period beginning November 1, the Secretary shall conduct outreach to veterans to—</text><paragraph id="HD473B661375C42AB8897492B80210EFB"><enum>(1)</enum><text>promote the Veteran Identity Theft Helpline of the Department (or successor resource); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H9857BC8EBC5B4DD59B4347B83B4CCE0A"><enum>(2)</enum><text>identify other identity theft resources available to veterans and beneficiaries of programs administered by the Secretary, including with respect to actions made by the Secretary to protect the identities of veterans and beneficiaries.</text></paragraph></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection><subsection id="H96F5854DBCC94D69882C41BC4E52765B"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Plan</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall submit to Congress a plan detailing the efforts of the Secretary to promote identity theft awareness and to assist veterans and beneficiaries of programs administered by the Secretary who experience identity theft.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
