R. 624</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210128">January 28, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="W000795">Mr. Wilson of South Carolina</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="M000194">Ms. Mace</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="N000190">Mr. Norman</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000480">Mr. Timmons</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="R000597">Mr. Rice of South Carolina</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="D000615">Mr. Duncan</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="T000165">Mr. Tiffany</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HAS00">Committee on Armed Services</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To prohibit the use of Federal funds to close or realign the Marine Corps Recruit Depot located at Parris Island, South Carolina.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H04E1783EBA764E87862C8AFB6F29C237" style="OLC"><section id="H343270D7B78E4F02837A6B8B2168EDFA" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Parris Island Protection Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H6C54A114A92C46B7A115E2CDD61004D1"><enum>2.</enum><header>Findings</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Congress finds the following:</text><paragraph id="HB724A8B2C4A3410A902973F12322F0C7"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Marine Corps Recruit Depot located at Parris Island, South Carolina (in this section referred to as <quote>Parris Island</quote>), has served the United States as a home to the Marine Corps since 1891.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HC03963F117D64D8EB7158D73DFEFBACC"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Parris Island was the first, and remains the only, facility to integrate women in boot camp training for the Marine Corps in the United States.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H55E3E555D7744C6783E4A372D8DF92B9"><enum>(3)</enum><text>Female recruits have trained at Parris Island since 1949.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H4D1AC1C6C6CE4AA396BE3AAC80048B64"><enum>(4)</enum><text>The first integrated company of male and female recruits graduated from Parris Island in 2019.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HE0D66298B6A34F82B1D243CFDBD8BB81"><enum>(5)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Parris Island has cultivated a legacy of excellence and faithful service to the United States.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HA350BB78E99047E5A9E6FDC28F220BE8"><enum>(6)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Parris Island is and shall remain the physical home of the U.S. Marine Corps Eastern Recruiting Region.</text></paragraph></section><section id="HCEE8D42188104B29B15B3D5B776442D3" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>3.</enum><header>Prohibition of closing or realignment of Marine Corps Recruit Depot located at Parris Island, South Carolina</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">No Federal funds may be used to close or realign Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, or to conduct any planning or other activity related to such closure or realignment.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
