R. 5452</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210930">September 30, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="H001091">Mrs. Hinson</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="A000378">Mrs. Axne</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name>, and in addition to the Committee on <committee-name committee-id="HWM00">Ways and Means</committee-name>, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned</action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to include physical therapists as practitioners able to furnish telehealth services under the Medicare program.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H1C4A56852939443E9A246E8DE14DC0F6" style="OLC"><section id="H6991F88E3F864C84AC37E7EA6DC6F524" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Parity in Telehealth for Physical Therapists Act of 2021</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>PT for PTs Act of 2021</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H9C18F05529674E62B2C3577C39BF2D8B"><enum>2.</enum><header>Including physical therapists as practitioners able to furnish telehealth services under the Medicare program</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1834(m) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395m">42 U.S.C. 1395m(m)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="H494BA0FEE580486D9E27142A5337980F"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (1), by striking <quote>(described in section 1842(b)(18)(C))</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H7257107846D449ECB7373134D4475213"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (3)(A), by adding at the end the following new sentence: <quote>For purposes of the preceding sentence, the term <quote>practitioner</quote> means a practitioner described in section 1842(b)(18)(C).</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HDC11A5F63CA2476C89AB62D0F45F5E92"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in paragraph (4)(E), by amending such subparagraph to read as follows:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H781F147960BD433BAB0B5308BAD7C68C" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subparagraph id="H57A0C44EA3A843608B0D1E92C57BD3C7"><enum>(E)</enum><header>Practitioner</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>practitioner</quote> means—</text><clause id="HB65B221505A84C3E8E6F7E32FFF87370"><enum>(i)</enum><text>a practitioner described in section 1842(b)(18)(C); </text></clause><clause id="HACF7C8C28BE143D199E4B9D50699BEDB"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>a physical therapist; and</text></clause><clause id="HD1070E092C174D79822DBAA50FE67E69"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>a physical therapist assistant acting under the supervision of a physical therapist (whether or not such supervision is provided in-person).</text></clause></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
