R. 5283</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210917">September 17, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="N000191">Mr. Neguse</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="P000618">Ms. Porter</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HII00">Committee on Natural Resources</committee-name>, and in addition to the Committee on <committee-name committee-id="HAG00">Agriculture</committee-name>, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned</action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To provide a housing allowance to Federal wildland firefighters, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HAEB1DFD74C67433CB29B53C804FB3AF3" style="OLC"><section id="H64C2329744134D68BA8CF44F598F1277" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Housing for our Firefighters Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="H4B6087F7BF6C40AD948A10FBDA523B10"><enum>2.</enum><header>Housing allowance for Federal wildland firefighters</header><subsection id="H799C3E2C7E90446F8E94F8531739963D"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Subject to the availability of appropriations, the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture shall provide a housing allowance to any Federal wildland firefighter hired at a location more than 50 miles from their primary residence. Such allowance shall be in an amount determined appropriate by the Secretaries and adjusted based on the cost of housing in the area of deployment.</text></subsection><subsection id="H884AA6BF5104456EBB27A64F8D94341C"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Federal wildland firefighter defined</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this Act, the term <quote>Federal wildland firefighter</quote> means any temporary, seasonal, or permanent position at the Department of Agriculture or the Department of the Interior that maintains group, emergency incident management, or fire qualifications and primarily engages in or supports wildland fire management activities, including forestry and rangeland technicians and positions concerning aviation, fire heavy equipment operations, emergency dispatch communication services, or fire and fuels management.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
