R. 4982</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210806">August 6, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="V000133">Mr. Van Drew</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HAS00">Committee on Armed Services</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To establish the Agent Orange Veterans Service Medal.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HC8094FE30F94478985CEF5F2DEE825A8" style="OLC"><section id="H23944A02DF8E48DCAD080790275CA74B" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Agent Orange Service Medal Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="HD5A7993565884311A813758768EB433F"><enum>2.</enum><header>Establishment of the Agent Orange Veterans Service Medal</header><subsection id="HB8B21889F6084435966D111E7E5B046A"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Service medal required</header><text>The Secretary of Defense shall design and produce a commemorative military service medal, to be known as the <quote>Agent Orange Veterans Service Medal</quote>, to honor veterans who receive compensation under section 1116 or 1116A of title 38, United States Code.</text></subsection><subsection id="HA3BEA70A975D46709B78C0802F016BF6"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Distribution of medal</header><paragraph id="H0B03329E23E243209EC66E02BF89152E"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Issuance to certain veterans</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">At the request of a veteran described in subsection (a), the Secretary of Defense shall issue the Agent Orange Veterans Service Medal to the veteran.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HE472F84AC00A421F8249A5B527CD9A82"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Issuance to next-of-kin</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In the case of a veteran described in subsection (a) who is deceased, the Secretary may provide for issuance of the Agent Orange Veterans Service Medal to the next-of-kin of the veteran.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H7B1595A433D247A0B578AAC40941A4AC"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Application</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary shall prepare and disseminate as appropriate an application by which veterans described in subsection (a) and their next-of-kin may apply to receive the Agent Orange Veterans Service Medal.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
