Davis of Illinois</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000586">Mr. García of Illinois</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="L000551">Ms. Lee of California</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000472">Mr. Takano</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="T000193">Mr. Thompson of Mississippi</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Public Health Service Act to provide for full repayment under National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program in case of a 5-year commitment, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H2569A9E3D3BB4E689479AEA6D7119CBC" style="OLC"><section id="H24156E1E7D9F43D0B9D38562D88999A3" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Creation of Opportunities for Medical Manpower in Underserved Neighborhoods by Indemnifying Tuition and Incentivizing Exceptional Service Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>COMMUNITIES Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="H78765D980AF84D3385366A64845BD44D"><enum>2.</enum><header>Full repayment under National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program in case of 5-year commitment</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 338B(g)(2) of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/254l-1">42 U.S.C. 254l–1(g)(2)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following: </text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H1C42B8C0A3634B44976219F3EA29CDAE" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subparagraph id="HEEC3BF83EEC84B8AA5661638F5F8EC62"><enum>(C)</enum><header>Full repayment in case of 5-year commitment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In the case of an individual who, pursuant to subsection (f)(1)(B)(iv), agrees to serve for a period of obligated service equal to 5 years, the Secretary, for each such year of obligated service, shall pay (subject to the availability of appropriations) on behalf of the individual the total amount owed by such individual for loans described in paragraph (1), divided by 5. </text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section><section id="HEE05DC5267524E4F9A0FE89850097459"><enum>3.</enum><header>National Health Service Corps authorization of appropriations</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 338H of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/254q">42 U.S.C. 254q</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="H1F5F3A21E4B7402FB1FA66A79D28478B"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (a), in the matter preceding paragraph (1), by striking <quote>this section</quote> and inserting <quote>this subpart</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H8A3A40A2F983420180D7EF28E5D4C02B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following: </text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H18A955FE072242D59AA0B63E9BE82CCE" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="HCFF6BC8C8971498EBAD85D01C10F546F"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Additional authorization of appropriations</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In addition to amounts authorized to be appropriated under subsection (a), there is authorized to be appropriated to carry out this subpart $300,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2022 through 2026. </text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
