R. 4245</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210629">June 29, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="V000081">Ms. Velázquez</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HPW00">Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To require public benefit corporations to accept cash for certain transportation as a condition of receiving Federal funds, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HD4D8A4D4CA0648E183556C1D9B27907E" style="OLC"><section id="HB2FDBC58C6244AA9ABD36655094CCCAD" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Preserving Cash for Transit Access Act of 2021</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H7CDC45F174964E8EB82F6473515139DD" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Specification of cash acceptance for transportation services</header><subsection id="H9E10C3319F5A4FF18BE9633B12DB7A0E"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">As a condition of receiving Federal funds, a public benefit corporation providing designated public transportation (as such term is defined in section 221 of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/12141">42 U.S.C. 12141</external-xref>)) shall accept cash (as such term is defined in section 602 of the Expedited Funds Availability Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/12/4001">12 U.S.C. 4001</external-xref>)) as legal tender for any public purchase of transportation services.</text></subsection><subsection id="H3F6383B301B74D04890C7C2F44193566"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Public purchase of transportation services defined</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section, the term <quote>public purchase of transportation services</quote> means a purchase of transportation-related expenses at facilities operated by a transportation agency that has, at a minimum—</text><paragraph id="HB948BEA120174701BB9B2E2BA180FDCE"><enum>(1)</enum><text>booths staffed by transportation agency personnel to conduct cash transactions; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H95FA15698C6C47E69AD3A6C0C400EB85"><enum>(2)</enum><text>automated vending machines at transportation access points operated by the transit agency.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
