(Mac) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/116/283">Public Law 116–283</external-xref>).</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H58447226AABB4504B878232DFEB4D0BC"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this section:</text><paragraph id="HEA1C7E519DDF4966B977F4705BC2FECF"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Assistant Secretary</header><text>The term <quote>Assistant Secretary</quote> means the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information, acting through the head of the Office of Internet Connectivity and Growth.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H49FD09589E884F44A12FA1F56E38FAD1"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Open network architecture</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>open network architecture</quote> means Open RAN networks and other network elements that follow a set of published open standards for multi-vendor network equipment interoperability, including open core and open transport.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H9124BA785FB54EFD85B8B8189BC1EB56" commented="no"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Open RAN network</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>Open RAN network</quote> means a wireless network that follows the Open Radio Access Network approach to standardization adopted by the O–RAN Alliance, Telecom Infra Project, or Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), or any similar set of published open standards for multi-vendor network equipment interoperability.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body><official-title-amendment>Amend the title so as to read: <quote>A bill to provide outreach and technical assistance to small providers regarding Open RAN networks, and for other purposes.</quote>.</official-title-amendment><endorsement display="yes"><action-date>October 19, 2021</action-date><action-desc>Reported with amendments, committed to the Committee of the Whole House on the State of the Union, and ordered to be printed</action-desc></endorsement></bill>
