Means</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to improve affordability and reduce premium costs of health insurance for consumers.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H004EEDB19F2047CEAA6F82BB470901DE" style="OLC"><section id="H5D23A0565EBE466F8D08B9A95E2981DA" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Health Care Affordability Act of 2021</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H7AC02844EDCB4BF4AF92C57E8FA793EB"><enum>2.</enum><header>Improve affordability and reduce premium costs of health insurance for consumers</header><subsection id="HE0B9BF13680D41C2B2E530006C03A584"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/36B">Section 36B(b)(3)(A)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended to read as follows:</text><quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HEFA4C9A0680B428DB9CA1BC08598F967" style="OLC"><subparagraph id="HA42E40F1926A4A1EBB9A1352D04DC9E8"><enum>(A)</enum><header>Applicable percentage</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The applicable percentage for any taxable year shall be the percentage such that the applicable percentage for any taxpayer whose household income is within an income tier specified in the following table shall increase, on a sliding scale in a linear manner, from the initial premium percentage to the final premium percentage specified in such table for such income tier:</text><table table-type="" table-template-name="Generic: 1 text, 1 num, 1 text" align-to-level="section" frame="topbot" colsep="1" rowsep="0" blank-lines-before="1" line-rules="hor-ver" colwidth="245pts"></colspec><colspec colname="column2" coldef="fig" min-data-value="13" colwidth="109pts"></colspec><colspec colname="column3" colsep="0" rowsep="0" coldef="fig" min-data-value="13" colwidth="104pts"></colspec><thead><row><entry namest="column1" morerows="0" rowsep="1" align="center" colname="column1">In the case of household<linebreak></linebreak> income (expressed id="H7B54CA76696D4F7684B0D244EF12D917"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/36B">Section 36B(c)(1)(A)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended by striking <quote>but does not exceed 400 percent</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="H4F191AB1230640ED92D8A6BB89E99EB7"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to taxable years beginning after December 31, 2021.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
