R. 3637</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210528">May 28, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S000522">Mr. Smith of New Jersey</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="C001063">Mr. Cuellar</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000583">Mr. Gottheimer</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="F000466">Mr. Fitzpatrick</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="P000599">Mr. Posey</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services to fund prize competitions to accelerate innovation in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Lyme disease, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H39BCB153302046E9879364DC6E868EDC" style="OLC"><section id="HC1B9BC28441B440BBDA17295B98BEA38" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>LymeX Authorization Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="HF1B47980BE224377BF6C6C26D8E9AA65"><enum>2.</enum><header>Policy</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">It is the policy of the United States to—</text><paragraph id="H01763BB4D5BE41AF90D454E9E5A680CD"><enum>(1)</enum><text>engage stakeholders, including academia, nonprofits, industry, small business, entrepreneurs, and government to facilitate patient-centered innovations in Lyme disease care;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H05FB86FC6CDD4A129996A088999E2E4F"><enum>(2)</enum><text>foster breakthroughs in health education and public awareness initiatives focused on Lyme disease patients; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H3D7566352A2E4B4FB5110656B11B1A1D"><enum>(3)</enum><text>accelerate development of next-gen diagnostics that are rapid and patient focused.</text></paragraph></section><section id="H978BDFC095854CFEA973F2C3CD03CAA5" commented="no"><enum>3.</enum><header>Authorization of appropriations</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">There is authorized to be appropriated to the Secretary of Health and Human Services $5,000,000 to carry out prize competitions (as defined in section 24 of the Stevenson-Wydler Technology Innovation Act of 1980 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/3719">15 U.S.C. 3719</external-xref>)) to accelerate innovation in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Lyme disease.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
