R. 3503</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210525">May 25, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="H001084">Ms. Herrell</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="G000595">Mr. Good of Virginia</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000565">Mr. Gosar</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="W000814">Mr. Weber of Texas</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HHM00">Committee on Homeland Security</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To direct the Secretary of Homeland Security to reimburse eligible persons harmed by certain policies of the Department of Homeland Security, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HA37FDB1252B34B00AB47F0CDCAB4C52C" style="OLC"><section id="H73644B0314A44E8E9D2325025787F437" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Repaying the Rural Borderlands Act of 2021</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="H379DFFB824854C69838C9E6FDA933666"><enum>2.</enum><header>Reimbursement for certain Department of Homeland Security policies</header><subsection id="H2627E76507E246358B06515C321C20D0"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Homeland Security shall make payments to eligible persons to reimburse such persons for—</text><paragraph id="HD30BDBBF5CFA44C5BEEF552634B6F17E"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">damage to real or personal property caused by aliens entering the United States along the southern border, including harm to livestock, destruction of fences, destruction of crops, damage to buildings, damage to infrastructure, such as an irrigation pipe, and environmental damage; or</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H9433D457B2A94B4890850F97301713F6"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in the case of a unit of local government, the provision of care to aliens entering the United States along the southern border. </text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HFF086157776E4DBAB40EB0DC8B842221"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this Act: </text><paragraph id="H6E69DD4E4A9141D1B9361734820AE70A"><enum>(1)</enum><text>The term <term>eligible person</term> means an individual, an entity, a unit of local government, or a State.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H8ED7824E9E1C48DEABDEF94A002C0B66"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The term <term>provision of care</term> includes the provision of housing, transportation, health care, school, and food.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
