R. 3492</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210525">May 25, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="E000297">Mr. Espaillat</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S000168">Ms. Salazar</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HAS00">Committee on Armed Services</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 10, United States Code, to extend certain morale, welfare, and recreation privileges to recipients of the gold star lapel button.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H3866D98EF3494CE487540B02256DC7F1" style="OLC"><section id="H72EB38CBBC944CE284D8FEAC7A54F37A" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Gold Star Families Benefits Protection Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H0C747D3D81DD4B4F94CC6D99446A887A" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Extension of certain morale, welfare, and recreation privileges to certain recipients of the gold star lapel button or next of kin deceased personnel lapel button</header><subsection id="H243A5322CDDB437C85581610054F61D6" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/10/54">Chapter 54</external-xref> of title 10, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new section:</text><quoted-block id="H9EA6B1A611264474ACDDD8AAA03B1DB4" style="USC"><section id="H79D9F4994AC14B219969B85EC2C27CCB"><enum>1067.</enum><header>Use of commissary stores and MWR facilities: certain recipients of the gold star lapel button or next of kin deceased personnel lapel button</header><subsection id="H2631A1253B4B42968959ECFAAAEB9C2E"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Eligibility</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">A covered individual shall be permitted to use commissary stores and MWR retail facilities on the same basis as a member of the armed forces on active duty.</text></subsection><subsection id="HD0D80EE037AE41E08C85D0A821114A09"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this section:</text><paragraph id="HE4007997B9B441F78EFEAC5F34538800"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>covered individual</quote> means an adult individual who—</text><subparagraph id="HDC6C895242C04530AE3ABA9336539000"><enum>(A)</enum><text>is the surviving child of a member; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HF02B43FBDB1C47B69EDEAC7CE81296DE"><enum>(B)</enum><text>who has received a gold star lapel button under section 1126 of this title or a next of kin deceased personnel lapel button.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H0139049AE7AC46858F9315049DCCB5C1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The term <term>MWR retail facilities</term> has the meaning given that term in section 1063 of this title.</text></paragraph></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection><subsection id="HFFC8D5F76F924965BBE5E0C120EAF043"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The table of sections at the beginning of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/10/54">chapter 54</external-xref> of title 10, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new item:</text><quoted-block id="H0E2B23F546C24177BD0C9AE842679617" style="USC"><toc regeneration="no-regeneration"><toc-entry level="section">1067.
