R. 339</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210115">January 15, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="T000486">Mr. Torres of New York</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HPW00">Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To direct the Architect of the Capitol to design and install an appropriate fence around the perimeter of the United States Capitol, including the East Front and the West Front.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H1ED352BC3C3B4600AC697AD961167C09" style="OLC"><section id="H6EB81B6BB17B485FB9B5A399F939AA11" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Secure U.S. Capitol Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="HB77A58BE99AF49A88739C362EEFA011E" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Installation of fence around perimeter of United States Capitol</header><subsection id="H2F513228EA974B13933A73ACB3C34658"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Installation</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Architect of the Capitol shall carry out a project to design and install an appropriate fence around the perimeter of the United States Capitol, including the East Front and the West Front.</text></subsection><subsection id="H095C3D5D0F794B47BEC696A22D604C9B"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Factors considered</header><text>In carrying out the project under this section, the Architect of the Capitol shall take into consideration the need to protect the security of the United States Capitol and the safety of the individuals who work and visit the Capitol, to preserve the ability of individuals to visit the Capitol, and to preserve the design of the Capitol and Capitol Grounds, and shall consider specifically the so-called <quote>Gateway Project</quote> to protect the Capitol which was proposed by Terrance Gainer, the former Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper of the Senate and Chief of the Capitol Police.</text></subsection><subsection id="HD061B09CFF0548B2AF646F16A47DE91E"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Deadline</header><text>The Architect of the Capitol shall complete the project under this section not later than January 1, 2023.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
