which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HPW00">Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To increase the project cap for certain small starts projects, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HCD43E40859AE4752A77C818AEBA93330" style="OLC"><section id="H02A49807426C4FD390905B4CDED187AC" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Build Up the Suburbs Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>BUS Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="H8069DCAFFBEB438F9774480E9ED0AED9" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 5302 of title 49, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="HDF89C889EE994CF2BF60AD3222D19E0F"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by redesignating paragraphs (7), (8), (9), (10), (11), (12), (13), (14), (15), (16), (17), (18), (19), (20), (21), (22), (23), and (24) as paragraphs (8), (9), (10), (11), (12), (13), (14), (15), (16), (17), (18), (19), (20), (21), (22), (23), (24), and (25), respectively; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="H1E921F80C8BA40ED9ECB6DBCBBA93B1E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after paragraph (6) the following:</text><quoted-block style="USC" id="H469FE0C86CA74B0188C745C3A529F5E1" display-inline="no-display-inline"><paragraph id="H9C36EAA2961943C7A077C6FD29CCD699"><enum>(7)</enum><header>Express lane transit system</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>express lane transit system</quote> means a public transportation facility that—</text><subparagraph id="HBCF93C70FB1B4BCF9A0C8DDC032A2511"><enum>(A)</enum><text>utilizes an integrated combination of bus rapid transit and tolled managed lanes; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H2B47D84407A141C1BE444EF716552696"><enum>(B)</enum><text>allows for limited access entry of toll paying vehicles to restricted lanes, while prioritizing transit’s need and use of available capacity in order to improve transit performance. </text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>; and </after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph><paragraph id="HBEC6F8C1AF7C476CAEE1316F8EBF09F1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in paragraph (8), as so redesignated—</text><subparagraph id="H66BAD05CEAA64CCD9493794F137D450F"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in subparagraph (D) by striking <quote>; or</quote> and inserting a semicolon;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H3CAEE914F8904AABBC1A8190C59EAC13"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in subparagraph (E) by striking the period and inserting <quote>; or</quote>; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HD45190BF0C6C48F2BC796DE454C3D17F"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following: </text><quoted-block style="USC" id="H09818A15871740B5B528EC1ED0B69B66" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subparagraph id="HF39A70B8FF68495EA125EA8DE31C6CC8"><enum>(G)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">for express lane transit system. </text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph></section><section id="H59E830AE1B594582A9D71485E56E304B"><enum>3.</enum><header>Fixed guideway capital investment grants</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 5309(a)(7) of title 49, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="H15F05A4B21DF4D3BA0B4703976872686"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A) by striking <quote>$100,000,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$360,000,000</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H8BE8257F243A4233963C3A7551CC4A4D"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subparagraph (B) by striking <quote>$300,000,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$600,000,000</quote>.</text></paragraph></section><section id="H57948943EB284AB3A27A77706572DDFC"><enum>4.</enum><header>Nationally significant freight and highway projects</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 117 of title 23, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following: </text><quoted-block style="USC" id="H72FAFDFBA360478A86C77EA30B347D99" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="H173B127BAD184CF29E2D2F5B50187FA1"><enum>(o)</enum><header>Priority</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In selecting projects under this section, the Secretary shall give priority to projects that include multimodal public transportation components. </text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
