R. 3256</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210514">May 14, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="P000605">Mr. Perry</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="M001199">Mr. Mast</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="P000599">Mr. Posey</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="R000610">Mr. Reschenthaler</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000552">Mr. Gohmert</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="T000165">Mr. Tiffany</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="D000615">Mr. Duncan</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="H001086">Mrs. Harshbarger</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="A000055">Mr. Aderholt</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000565">Mr. Gosar</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001214">Mr. Steube</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000563">Mr. Gibbs</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001104">Mr. Cawthorn</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="V000133">Mr. Van Drew</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="J000304">Mr. Jackson</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HFA00">Committee on Foreign Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To prohibit Federal funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HF2BE9BCD9486452196CBE9634F9BD777" style="OLC"><section id="H5B376DA681FE46FAB669C0A54B820D46" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Defund the Wuhan Institute of Virology Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HE2194005619E4374B2E90E6831AB613A"><enum>2.</enum><header>Prohibition on Federal funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology</header><subsection id="HBE2CA6CFCAE7434FB8CD76CDB11E5E8D"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>No funds authorized or appropriated by Federal law may be made available for any purpose to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.</text></subsection><subsection id="H185017919C4148DCABF6DDD6CE544145"><enum>(b)</enum><header>GAO study and report</header><text>Not later than 2 years after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Comptroller General of the United States shall conduct a study, and submit to Congress a report, on the amount of Federal funds awarded or indirectly given to Wuhan Institute of Virology or researchers affiliated with Wuhan Institute of Virology, during the 15-year period preceding such date of enactment were provided, whether purposely or inadvertently, to the People’s Republic of China, Chinese Communist Party, or the Wuhan Institute of Virology, or any agency or instrumentality thereof.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
