R. 307</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210113">January 13, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="K000388">Mr. Kelly of Mississippi</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HVR00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 38, United States Code, to direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to include the KIA, MIA, and POW acronyms on headstones and markers furnished by the Department of Veterans Affairs.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H604ABAA7A8D146CCBA774596D823C559" style="OLC"><section id="HDAA4055ADEEA4F61B922F33F71A9ACBD" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Inclusion of KIA, MIA, and POW acronyms on headstones and markers furnished by Department of Veterans Affairs</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 2306(c) of title 38, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="H1C4C83C4A81944C7A74500A4164ED172"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>A headstone or marker furnished</quote> and inserting <quote>(1) A headstone or marker furnished</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HACFC44FBFCA946F988633056D9E63E50"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following new paragraph:</text><quoted-block style="USC" id="H16D1B004DD0F4F4C8E7BD80E613D4427" display-inline="no-display-inline"><paragraph id="HE6CE1CB06F8948B49FE3569F5415014B" indent="up1"><enum>(2)</enum><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="H390EC082759549489EA62D4EB59AD295"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary shall permit the following acronyms to be included on a headstone or marker under subsection (a), (b), or (d) of this section:</text><clause id="H700019E1CAC540BDACA627C7ADD34F7C"><enum>(i)</enum><text><quote>KIA</quote> for an individual killed in action.</text></clause><clause id="H25F886C741F046BDBB458D941390C95F"><enum>(ii)</enum><text><quote>MIA</quote> for an individual who was missing in action.</text></clause><clause id="H6C4987F683994FC79028CB23291B5702"><enum>(iii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><quote>POW</quote> for an individual who was a prisoner of war.</text></clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HDF8818FC1F1549BA9B33562BCD92F6BF" indent="up1"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary may not count an acronym included on a headstone or marker under subparagraph (A) towards any character or line limit for such headstone or marker. </text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
