R. 2933</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210430">April 30, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="M001202">Mrs. Murphy of Florida</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="E000298">Mr. Estes</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HWM00">Committee on Ways and Means</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to increase the age for the beginning date for required minimum distributions.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H1167DCDD21DF4C64AE311D18068022F6" style="OLC"><section id="H0ABD8ECDC26346D19E50C5E120AAC0D1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Increase in age for required beginning date for mandatory distributions</header><subsection id="H20C1FFE480D841EA9D909CA1FAB7FD31"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/401">Section 401(a)(9)(C)(i)(I)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended by striking <quote>age 72</quote> and inserting <quote>the applicable age</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="HAAFF866DD817473BA09C744FFC04FC5D"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Spouse beneficiaries; special rule for owners</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Subparagraphs (B)(iv)(I) and (C)(ii)(I) of section 401(a)(9) of such Code are each amended by striking <quote>age 72</quote> and inserting <quote>the applicable age</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="H5444A9B45AF3415C9C98611A001E7CBB"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Applicable age</header><text>Section 401(a)(9)(C) of such Code is amended by adding at the end the following new clause:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H90DEC59B0573422996513F2F03E97282" display-inline="no-display-inline"><clause id="HD5754A2247E943D0966EC362BFBD57D9"><enum>(v)</enum><header>Applicable age</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The applicable age shall be—</text><subclause id="HDF34D42AB0E84C258B15A3604C3DF83D"><enum>(I)</enum><text>in the case of an individual who attains age 72 after December 31, 2026, age 73, and</text></subclause><subclause id="H3101FF156F184EE6A09A503F47F20AD1"><enum>(II)</enum><text>in the case of an individual who attains age 73 after December 31, 2032, age 75.</text></subclause></clause><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection><subsection id="H38130AAFF3A745B3A3C70578123498D5"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Conforming amendments</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The last sentence of section 408(b) of such Code is amended by striking <quote>age 72</quote> and inserting <quote>the applicable age (determined under section 401(a)(9)(C)(v) for the calendar year in which such taxable year begins)</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="H8318FB36CE3841EF8FD9A102C6DAE51C" commented="no"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to distributions required to be made after December 31, 2026, with respect to individuals who attain age 72 after such date.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
