R. 278</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210112">January 12, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="B001309">Mr. Burchett</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HFA00">Committee on Foreign Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To prohibit the use of United States Government funds for art in United States embassies and consulates, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H9CB2BEDA87014FE78B6236D8E40A6AA0" style="OLC"><section id="H570EF0E209874E48B46AF8C885E19BD1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>No Taxpayer-Funded Art in Embassies Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H0745B725CA414CB187E17D3CB8ACCE85"><enum>2.</enum><header>Prohibition</header><subsection id="HF1998F9CBE0D49169C3C92E65C0242FD"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">No funds are authorized to be appropriated, and the Secretary of State may not obligate or expend any funds, for the purchase, installation, insurance, or transport of any art for the purposes of installation or display in any embassy, consulate, or other foreign mission of the United States.</text></subsection><subsection id="H6C5810A76D08443D919DE2F5B83F9D60"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Definition</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section, the term <quote>art</quote> includes paintings, sculptures, photographs, industrial design, and craft art. </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
