R. 2475</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210413">April 13, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="M000317">Ms. Malliotakis</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HPW00">Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To allow certain veterans to use high occupancy vehicle lanes, including toll lanes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H66EFD1345F6D44549E1F9330439552B7" style="OLC"><section id="H26C42C1BDF2D4C9BB09982B81261E4AF" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>HOV Lanes for Heroes Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="HD0D2683006784D6ABD2368DFDA5379CD"><enum>2.</enum><header>HOV facilities</header><subsection id="H2D49CBF9B66B438C83F4F81D99252126"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 166(b) of title 23, United States Code, is amended by inserting at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="H3EAAD036CE454F239A94221BF7F7C399" display-inline="no-display-inline"><paragraph id="H8DB47596D10D4CCAAE14EF98A46D5B55"><enum>(6)</enum><header>Disabled veterans</header><subparagraph id="H652E93F6170C4F50AA1A8DB0A944DAE6"><enum>(A)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The public authority may allow a disabled veteran to use the HOV facility if such veteran has a license plate that clearly identifies the vehicle, a registered transponder, or other method of identification the public authority considers necessary for qualification.</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HC46F67FF996F49F6BE5E618A245E847D"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Definition of disabled veteran</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">For purposes of this paragraph, the term <quote>disabled veteran</quote> means a veteran (as such term is defined in section 101 of title 38) who the Secretary of Veterans Affairs has determined has a service-connected (as such term is defined in such section) disability rated at or above a percentage determined to be qualifying by the public authority.</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H86772A9040A04901B54241B5864A1B7B"><enum>(C)</enum><header>Occupancy exception</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding the occupancy requirement of subsection (a)(2), 1 occupant described in subparagraph (B) of this paragraph may be permitted to use a HOV facility.</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HD8E2B081762A4215B0836710E8548BDC"><enum>(D)</enum><header>No charge for tolls</header><text>Under this paragraph, a public authority may charge no toll.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection><subsection id="H798E59D3CA604B76BFC1E45E7EF67BFE"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming amendments</header><text>Section 166 of such title is further amended—</text><paragraph id="H107E8CB76EFA4099989C26E9FA525D16"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (b)(1) by striking <quote>through (5)</quote> and inserting <quote>through (6)</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H41D1A2F643204AA2ADE2E35BDABCDD58"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (d)(1) by striking <quote>paragraph (4) or (5)</quote> and inserting <quote>paragraph (4), (5), or (6)</quote>. </text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
