R. 221</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210106">January 6, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="E000215">Ms. Eshoo</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HGO00">Committee on Oversight and Reform</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 5, United States Code, to modify the oath of office taken by individuals in the civil service or uniformed services, and of other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H0C6B8D1701F74FFFA72E8A9FB8E6BBF7" style="OLC"><section id="HA79F7932BD9E4AFFB201E89649AE89E8" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Modification of oath of office for individuals in the civil service or uniformed services</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 3331 of title 5, United States Code, is amended to read as follows:</text><quoted-block style="USC" id="H90F49005791E4EB0AE8AEEAE7711B021" display-inline="no-display-inline"><section id="H2A6E055BC046477AB4CF14485457F239"><enum>3331.</enum><header>Oath of office</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">An individual, except the President, elected or appointed to an office of honor or profit in the civil service or uniformed services, shall take the following oath: <quote>I, AB, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I place this obligation above that to any individual, political party, or faction; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.</quote> This section does not affect other oaths required by law.</text></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
