R. 2213</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210326">March 26, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="G000579">Mr. Gallagher</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HPW00">Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 23, United States Code, with respect to vehicle weight limitations for certain logging vehicles, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HBAC33612906C4601ABE981FF19AE01C5" style="OLC"><section id="H30765CD2F28B4C1193CCA23EA76A8B1E" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Safe Routes Act of 2021</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H09E70D8B3ED04F6B9021B8C3E03DE2FD"><enum>2.</enum><header>Vehicle weight exemptions</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 127 of title 23, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="USC" id="H912F223D8A554F4D9F8A3495A10F1FA2" display-inline="no-display-inline"><subsection id="H5B65465D977E445392825FE3E5B379AF"><enum>(v)</enum><header>Certain logging vehicles</header><paragraph id="H17A7C83484FF42B7B78F64BD872D6DA7"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary shall waive, with respect to a covered logging vehicle, the application of any vehicle weight limit established under this section.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HECD131F8C13345859A0C5D4FD2410E67"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Covered logging vehicle defined</header><text>In this subsection, the term <term>covered logging vehicle</term> means a vehicle that—</text><subparagraph id="H7C9E9F35A5E74D9C94DFFB2B9F023619"><enum>(A)</enum><text>is transporting raw or unfinished forest products, including logs, pulpwood, biomass, or wood chips;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H43D5A592AECA41C9ACB08F8C37B2CCE3"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">is traveling a distance not greater than 150 air miles on the Interstate from origin to a storage or processing facility; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H895DFE92A35C4B6F8F2711112DA407F2"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">meets State legal weight tolerances and vehicle configurations for transporting raw or unfinished forest products within the State boundaries in which the vehicle is operating.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H876C419BCEEA4BAAA69BE8CAFA70103D"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Application of weight tolerances</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The waiver in this subsection shall only apply with respect to a State legal weight tolerance in effect on the date of enactment of this subsection.</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
