R. 2040</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210318">March 18, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="L000583">Mr. Loudermilk</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="B001282">Mr. Barr</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="E000294">Mr. Emmer</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="G000588">Mr. Gonzalez of Ohio</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HBA00">Committee on Financial Services</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To update thresholds for certain currency transaction reports and suspicious activity reports, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HE7D3FDCAEB684677924BC144BFD946B1" style="OLC"><section id="H645D28A3B8B74C0E9B402A6D556220FE" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Financial Reporting Threshold Modernization Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HF8BCCA4B04534EF58F927AC18CE7BB2D"><enum>2.</enum><header>Updating thresholds for certain currency transaction reports and suspicious activity reports</header><subsection id="H5EE7AD66631C4038AC417D05ED96A129"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Thresholds for certain currency transaction reports</header><paragraph id="HBABE7060CA694DDFA713BB062A775B39"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than the end of the 180-day period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of the Treasury shall revise regulations issued with respect to section 5313 of title 31, United States Code, to update each $10,000 threshold amount in such regulations to $30,000.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H47B90BB9E40148338B739DFAB70F64DA"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Threshold for reports relating to coins and currency received in nonfinancial trade or business</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 5331 of title 31, United States Code, is amended by striking <quote>$10,000</quote> each place such term appears in heading or text and inserting <quote>$30,000</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HF4AB7761591146F8BEDD3E0F8BC083A5"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Thresholds for suspicious activity reports</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than the end of the 180-day period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act, each Federal department or agency that issues regulations with respect to reports on suspicious transactions described under section 5318(g) of title 31, United States Code, shall update each $5,000 threshold amount in such regulations to $10,000 and each $2,000 threshold amount in such regulation to $3,000.</text></subsection><subsection id="H9F4004128EFA4C23A67DAF5BACD90CB9"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Updating the money services business definition thresholds</header><text>Not later than the end of the 180-day period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of the Treasury shall revise section 1010.100(ff) of title 31, Code of Federal Regulations, to update each $1,000 threshold amount in such regulations to $3,000.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
