Maloney of New York</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HGO00">Committee on Oversight and Reform</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 44, United States Code, to require the President make and preserve records, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H78A4D5DBBBE245B1B1C3CCB7889E0D9D" style="OLC"><section id="H687FB47714D44BE58C44AE3B52CBE229" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Presidential Records Preservation Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="HA68D6007DF8C4DF69390C1BB3CAECEC1"><enum>2.</enum><header>Requirement to make and preserve records</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 2203(a) of title 44, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="H38A5AF3DEB2C45C29FAEA8D92E7348B8"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>Through the implementation of records management controls and other necessary actions, the</quote> and inserting <quote>The</quote>; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="H000ADD9C20E24D879E1C3F534DE5BD21"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking <quote>take all such steps as may be necessary to assure that</quote> and inserting <quote>make and preserve records containing adequate and proper documentation of</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H520E898927A447F9826E8A33970448E1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by striking <quote>are adequately documented</quote>; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="H048A4F8E3A0B404EA0B52618D0ACC006"><enum>(4)</enum><text>by inserting <quote>shall take all steps necessary to ensure</quote> before <quote>that such records</quote>; and </text></paragraph><paragraph id="H80EEF17647D5422FBCCEE92D62159C9C"><enum>(5)</enum><text>by inserting <quote>, including establishing records management controls to capture, manage, and preserve electronic messages and ensure that electronic messages are readily accessible for retrieval through electronic searches</quote> after <quote>law</quote>. </text></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
