R. 1818</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210311">March 11, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="F000468">Mrs. Fletcher</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services to award grants to States and political subdivisions of States to support the improvement, renovation, or modernization of infrastructure at clinical laboratories that will help to improve SARS–CoV–2 and COVID–19 testing and response activities, including the expansion and enhancement of testing capacity at such laboratories.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H7DA8E76AB99D4BA2967DBECFCF7C71B4" style="OLC"><section id="HDC181C1429784081AFDCA09426636795" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Pilot program to improve laboratory infrastructure</header><subsection id="H47387AE306664392B93882FF13844FEC"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall award grants to States and political subdivisions of States to support the improvement, renovation, or modernization of infrastructure at clinical laboratories (as defined in section 353 of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/263a">42 U.S.C. 263a</external-xref>)) that will help to improve SARS–CoV–2 and COVID–19 testing and response activities, including the expansion and enhancement of testing capacity at such laboratories.</text></subsection><subsection id="HA1BA246C26DD41D09536EE9695872A12"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Authorization of appropriations</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">To carry out this section, there is authorized to be appropriated $4,500,000,000 for the period of fiscal years 2022 through 2026.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
