R. 1698</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210309">March 9, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="L000566">Mr. Latta</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To require the Secretary of Energy to establish the Nuclear Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment Program.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H47F8FCFB0AC94880BDE8A9C7C8AD6E9F" style="OLC"><section id="H1236D0C753CD4FF892D7E8F893778BF2" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Nuclear Industrial Base Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HC913B8C7793A4EBF8707AA9AEF2DAEC0" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Nuclear Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment Program</header><subsection id="H62ED9B49529B45459196C789C7297B83"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Establishment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 30 days after the date of enactment of this section, the Secretary of Energy shall establish a nuclear industrial base analysis and sustainment program, to be known as the Nuclear Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment Program.</text></subsection><subsection id="HC091C449042846AD9AAA0C2381EB19F9"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Duties</header><text>In carrying out the Nuclear Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment Program, the Secretary shall—</text><paragraph id="HD90736908C094693B48D28C27EEE0524"><enum>(1)</enum><text>support the monitoring and assessment of the nuclear industrial base and its urgent operational needs;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H3BBFE929EBBB48BB84534912A3BEA405"><enum>(2)</enum><text>support efforts to expand the nuclear industrial base by encouraging public-private partnerships and partnerships between individuals and entities that are developing and deploying new nuclear power assets that operate at each stage of the nuclear fuel cycle; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H26105F5EB0A242BF879F082789F21A94"><enum>(3)</enum><text>highlight and formulate recommendations to address supply chain vulnerabilities of the nuclear industrial base.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H68F6D487C98B4F098D6F155EEAEC20F0"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this section:</text><paragraph id="H3CFB2E4990A14711BC08E05076CEB485"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Program</header><text>The term <term>Program</term> means the Nuclear Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment Program established under subsection (a).</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HA61E6AA674634477B74B8319ABC3B898"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Nuclear industrial base</header><text>The term <term>nuclear industrial base</term> means the persons or organizations within the Federal Government and the private sector that are engaged in designing, producing, maintaining, developing, or integrating nuclear energy systems, components, parts, or other assets.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
