R. 1590</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210303">March 3, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="R000599">Mr. Ruiz</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HIF00">Committee on Energy and Commerce</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Communications Act of 1934 to add access to telecommunications and information services in Indian country and areas with high populations of Indian people to the universal service principle relating to access to such services in rural, insular, and high cost areas.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HFB46988970F44767B6DE9CDC1CDEDA10" style="OLC"><section id="H568BB9A82497465BA552C367662E3E06" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Tribal Internet Expansion Act of 2021</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H385479ED9D064251BE346208A84C425E"><enum>2.</enum><header>Universal service in Indian country and areas with high populations of Indian people</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 254(b)(3) of the Communications Act of 1934 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/47/254">47 U.S.C. 254(b)(3)</external-xref>) is amended by inserting <quote>and in Indian country (as defined in section 1151 of title 18, United States Code) and areas with high populations of Indian (as defined in section 19 of the Act of June 18, 1934 (Chapter 576; 48 Stat. 988; <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/25/5129">25 U.S.C. 5129</external-xref>)) people</quote> after <quote>high cost areas</quote>.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
