R. 1541</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210303">March 3, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="A000371">Mr. Aguilar</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="C001067">Ms. Clarke of New York</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="P000604">Mr. Payne</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="R000602">Miss Rice of New York</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="L000591">Mrs. Luria</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001110">Mr. Correa</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="N000179">Mrs. Napolitano</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="F000468">Mrs. Fletcher</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="L000582">Mr. Lieu</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="P000613">Mr. Panetta</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="H001081">Mrs. Hayes</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001112">Mr. Carbajal</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="V000130">Mr. Vargas</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001196">Mr. Moulton</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001303">Ms. Blunt Rochester</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="K000381">Mr. Kilmer</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="R000577">Mr. Ryan</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001072">Mr. Carson</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C000754">Mr. Cooper</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="L000593">Mr. Levin of California</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="K000396">Mr. Kahele</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="M001188">Ms. Meng</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HHM00">Committee on Homeland Security</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to provide support to State and local governments in their efforts to counter violent extremist threats, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H97DD925894894A62B7B3205FDBD5405F" style="OLC"><section id="HDE92052A000744AEA3A61EA9DE70E0B6" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Preventing Radical Extremist’s Violent Endeavors Now and Tomorrow Act of 2021</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>PREVENT Act of 2021</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H6400D418743B457EA7FA276A82F55B90" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header> Support to State and Local Governments in their efforts to counter violent extremist threats</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Subsection (b) of section 801 of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/6/361">6 U.S.C. 361</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="HC072C0B72F3E4E80992C92A595D92469"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (3), by striking <quote>and</quote> after the semicolon at the end;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H5F6E4E410167447FAE66064FD40C5B48"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (4), by striking the period at the end and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H83419F06CDC140759221A313D615A1FB"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following new paragraph:</text><quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HCF1AD6ECC8EB4799A9250F1F7C329963" style="OLC"><paragraph id="H5C2B9977DFB6499CA5599A85AEEA0797"><enum>(5)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">for the purposes of countering violent extremist threats—</text><subparagraph id="H7A1738CAF756484B9C82BC85D4D453E2"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">provide training from specially trained clinical social workers, psychologists, religious leaders, community leaders, and law enforcement personnel, to assist local efforts at securing the homeland; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H037D544E4F5B41169B98D7298C98591D"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, provide to State and local governments specialists, analysts, and agents trained to counter terrorism and White nationalism to assist, in the manner and degree necessary, local efforts at responding to such threats.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
