R. 1422</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210226">February 26, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="P000610">Ms. Plaskett</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S001204">Mr. San Nicolas</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HHA00">Committee on House Administration</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To permit each of the territories of the United States to provide and furnish statues honoring their citizens for placement in Statuary Hall in the same manner as statues honoring citizens of the States are provided for placement in Statuary Hall.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H2B1A1AF2AACA4D9CAA514E7387153B9D" style="OLC"><section display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H916B1F6EE2814BBDA4ECD254E663F002" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Placement of statues of citizens of territories of the United States in Statuary Hall</header><subsection id="H4501A04D543C4D6B819397DD9724671E"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Section 1814 of the Revised Statutes of the United States (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/2/2131">2 U.S.C. 2131</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following new sentence: <quote>For purposes of this section, the term <term>State</term> includes American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands, and the term <term>citizen</term> includes a national of the United States, as defined in section 101(a)(22) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1101">8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(22)</external-xref>).</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="H21B09FEFC2F348B8940D75483FBA0522"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming amendment relating to procedures for replacement of statues</header><text>Section 311 of the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act, 2001 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/2/2132">2 U.S.C. 2132</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection:</text><quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H54992B1A564946ED80AFCFB8433003F4" style="OLC"><subsection id="H9701D53E58CD4CA4B8E82197E4F6EC38"><enum>(f)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">For purposes of this section, the term <term>State</term> includes American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
