R. 1363</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210225">February 25, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="N000191">Mr. Neguse</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="D000619">Mr. Rodney Davis of Illinois</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HAG00">Committee on Agriculture</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the National Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching Policy Act of 1977 to provide for an additional goal of the Agriculture Advanced Research and Development Authority (AGARDA) to enhance the role of agriculture in innovative sustainability solutions.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H2295E1B83A3B4C4CA4FB44C581FD2308" style="OLC"><section id="H392CCB4701FA431995EF4C3CD21642E4" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Sustainable Agriculture Research Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H20006B4E6C42457EB64EE63237AC0E33" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Additional goal of AGARDA to enhance role of agriculture in innovative sustainability solutions</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1473H(b)(2) of the National Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching Policy Act of 1977 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/7/3319k">7 U.S.C. 3319k(b)(2)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="H22F8E67F50774BFDBFFA8E6D4D68A3D4"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (C), by striking <quote>and</quote> at the end;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H2CCA6AC5CC544A81A15E60ABE33B148C"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by redesignating subparagraph (D) as subparagraph (E); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H28B7B367BDC047819C5CF833E19E28F0"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by inserting after subparagraph (C) the following:</text><quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H651794DA0EEE4913A167F9043DE14B7C" style="OLC"><subparagraph id="H5067FF7F257A4DC68C04187672C80129"><enum>(D)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">to enhance the role of agriculture in innovative voluntary resilience solutions in the United States through the development of agricultural technologies that address—</text><clause id="H2EB77D0310A04DCC8FDE641650FFC54D"><enum>(i)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the impact of extreme weather on crop production;</text></clause><clause id="H2E9B85A75DC24FFCADA5301B2D9CAC9C"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>the expansion of the potential for long-term carbon storage through agriculture;</text></clause><clause id="H4438FF63A7A6469BB6492428275937ED"><enum>(iii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">increased economic and practical feasibility for renewable and sustainable energy on farms and in the agriculture industry; and</text></clause><clause id="H31C41DC6A787467C8B1EC1DAE871083B"><enum>(iv)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">increased adoption of voluntary conservation practices that sequester carbon and build on-farm climate resilience; and</text></clause></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
