R. 1147</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210218">February 18, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="L000566">Mr. Latta</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="J000295">Mr. Joyce of Ohio</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="R000577">Mr. Ryan</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="G000563">Mr. Gibbs</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="L000578">Mr. LaMalfa</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001209">Ms. Spanberger</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S001204">Mr. San Nicolas</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="T000463">Mr. Turner</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HVR00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 38, United States Code, to require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to deliver notice of the denial of claims for benefits under the laws administered by the Secretary by certified mail, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="HE4497002EDD54E03A6B7CA6C50A56585" style="OLC"><section id="H07CC633799714CE19ABC094EEE3D70AF" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Veterans Right to Expediency Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HB632A3A75C99493FB520978A1C197827"><enum>2.</enum><header>Delivery of notice of denial of benefits under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs by certified mail</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 5104 of title 38, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection:</text><quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H705EC92AB9F348709B828D1F9DF3EC69" style="USC"><subsection id="HD11D506A8E5248858FB70BCDC615971B"><enum>(c)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In any case where the Secretary denies a benefit sought, the notice required by subsection (a) shall be delivered by certified mail.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
