RES. 43</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210422">April 22, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="G000590">Mr. Green of Tennessee</sponsor> submitted the following joint resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>JOINT RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to require that the Supreme Court of the United States be composed of nine justices.</official-title></form><resolution-body style="traditional" id="HAFB596D1D9854C97B56B6C76F483904B"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="HEA6EC2E912984C5DB56894781B701D7B"><enum/><text>That the following article is proposed as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years after the date of its submission for ratification:</text><quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H02A4D87036674F5E862EB9E4EB6B4011" style="traditional"><constitution-article id="HACCDCD225728410E9D8649A1F2D1E82A"><enum> —</enum><section id="HC969C027EC404B52A05DF08F792B4E5F" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Supreme Court of the United States shall be composed of nine justices, though one or more of these nine offices may be vacant until filled.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HB85F1C7776A84B56A8253F77605BF496" section-type="section-one"><enum>2.</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">If the size of the Supreme Court has been increased to more than nine justices before this amendment is ratified, upon the ratification of this amendment, those additional offices are void.</text></section><section id="H2C722E607CBC4B8BA3062556F397FB09" section-type="section-one"><enum>3.</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.</text></section></constitution-article><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></resolution-body></resolution>
