	<preamble>
 <whereas><text>Whereas women constitute 50.8 percent of people in the United States;</text> </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas women of different races, ethnicities, ages, and socioeconomic status experience many diseases and disorders differently than men experience those diseases and disorders;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas those different experiences are reflected in the incidence, prevalence, symptomology, and severity of the disease or disorder;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the risks and benefits of medical therapies vary based on the race, ethnicity, age, and socioeconomic status of a woman;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas women and men have fundamental biological differences;</text> </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, for many years, women of different races, ethnicities, ages, and socioeconomic status were underrepresented in biomedical and clinical research;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the improvement of the health of women relies on sex- and gender-based biomedical and clinical research;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the promise of individualized medicine cannot be realized without sex- and gender-based parity in research;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, on January 25, 2016, the National Institutes of Health implemented a policy requiring federally funded investigators to consider sex as a biological variable in preclinical research; and</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas that policy ushered in a new era of inclusivity and parity in research relating to the health of women: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble>
	<resolution-body id="H8954BC5512C04AEBB9AEBB993258F848" style="traditional">
 <section display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="H6DEB04D4C01A49BDBC0E960F216DD60B" section-type="undesignated-section"><enum></enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">that the Senate—</text> <paragraph id="HA8C89F7C50B84805A1DBE4959E6F239B"><enum>(1)</enum><text>expresses support for the designation of a <quote>Women’s Health Research Day</quote>; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H9F44A8DB59C94D53B46C885FE3E2AFA0"><enum>(2)</enum><text>supports efforts—</text> <subparagraph id="HA0F04BFD481046FF8CF767548FEC59F9"><enum>(A)</enum><text>to recognize the importance of biomedical and clinical research to the health and well-being of women;</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="HDAAA388F04254F5BAC2331DCCD27080E"><enum>(B)</enum><text>to increase awareness of the value of sex- and gender-based biomedical research; and</text> </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H2C19B45A4E134309AC0B57F44A4F529E"><enum>(C)</enum><text>to encourage individuals, including researchers and patients, to advocate on behalf of sex- and gender-inclusive research for women of different races, ethnicities, ages, and socioeconomic status.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
