<section id="H9ACEDB4652E74BDFB50E23B99968C4E4" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Servicemembers and Veterans Initiative Act of 2020</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="HB9E44C71D1E44360A4E7E7BBDB2E93C0"><enum>2.</enum><header>Servicemembers and veterans initiative</header> <subsection id="HAEE2B9AE1ED747A0B1A4A7E4FE36D37C"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Establishment</header><text>There is established the Servicemembers and Veterans Initiative within the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="H85F902C6EA4D4A29BBD425D1783F6CB4"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Duties</header><text>The Servicemembers and Veterans Initiative shall—</text> <paragraph id="HC380F6E4D5A847279868835B997879EF"><enum>(1)</enum><text>serve as legal and policy advisor to the Attorney General on the Department of Justice’s efforts to enforce criminal and civil laws that impact servicemembers, veterans, and their families;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HB85F642547F640A7880AD33ACD2D2DF6"><enum>(2)</enum><text>develop policy recommendations for the Attorney General on how the Department of Justice may improve enforcement of Federal law to support servicemembers, veterans, and their families;</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HCE20970D6DF54B629CF58CB5BEBE68F9"><enum>(3)</enum><text>serve as the liaison and point of contact between the Department of Justice and the military departments;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H26AF0EA1543241ABAC08875BD198C8BE"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">provide counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Justice Programs to ensure funding decisions take into account servicemembers, veterans, and their families;</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H952F5E8965914114B4EDA2E743C6DC15"><enum>(5)</enum><text>consult with components of the Department of Justice to promote the provision of civil legal aid to servicemembers, veterans, and their families;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H591DA929757E47E392B1D7A358ABE17F"><enum>(6)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">serve as a liaison and point of contact with the Consumer Protection Branch of the Civil Division of the Department of Justice, with respect to the prosecution of Federal crimes involving fraud that target servicemembers; and</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HCE6319435CAC43C49F6D8C76364C68CF"><enum>(7)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">serve as a liaison and point of contact with other components of the Department of Justice as needed to support the enforcement of other Federal laws that protect servicemembers and veterans, as the Attorney General determines appropriate. </text></paragraph></subsection></section>
