 to investigate medical centers of the Department of Veterans Affairs.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" style="OLC"><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id86EA3539D9E54FAAA3F7F6560723B9E1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Enhancing Veteran Care Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ida65e2dc3f2fa424288ddba3d2d340fbd" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Investigation of medical centers of the Department of Veterans Affairs</header><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id6E66BF562F1148FB90266DE21F214F80"><enum>(a)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Veterans Affairs may contract with a nonprofit organization that accredits health care organizations and programs in the United States to investigate a medical center of the Department of Veterans Affairs to assess and report deficiencies of the facilities at such medical center.</text></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id67071B355A114A65817A7A207D0CA9CA"><enum>(b)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Authority of directors</header><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idC1462B0C7508495EA1D5651A723E3B70"><enum>(1)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Subject to coordination under paragraph (2), the Secretary shall delegate the authority under subsection (a) to contract for an investigation at a medical center of the Department to the Director of the Veterans Integrated Service Network in which the medical center is located or the director of such medical center.</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idCE346D483CD24D4CA16AEFD0CDE7A7EF"><enum>(2)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Coordination</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Before entering into a contract under paragraph (1), the Director of a Veterans Integrated Service Network or the director of a medical center, as the case may be, shall notify the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, the Inspector General of the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Comptroller General of the United States for purposes of coordinating any investigation conducted pursuant to such contract with any other investigations that may be ongoing.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idD13A3690530E4E9ABBBCB22097CF8640"><enum>(c)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Rule of construction</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Nothing in this section may be construed—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id52DF3F5A3BBA4DB98489772ABCF57EA7"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">to prevent the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Veterans Affairs from conducting any review, audit, evaluation, or inspection regarding a topic for which an investigation is conducted under this section; or</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id0A0833AA7CF745EEAB2E637F7DC13AC3"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">to modify the requirement that employees of the Department assist with any review, audit, evaluation, or inspection conducted by the Office of the Inspector General of the Department.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body><attestation><attestation-group><attestation-date chamber="Senate" date="20171109">Passed the Senate November 9, 2017.</attestation-date><attestor display="no"></attestor><role>Secretary</role></attestation-group></attestation><endorsement display="yes"></endorsement></bill>
