 <section id="H8AC3AF688D6A4A7F89E7E6C937F3F01E" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Fowler and Boskoff Peaks Designation Act</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section id="HEF56AE8E75C847809DC50D91C5373B23"><enum>2.</enum><header>Findings</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Congress finds that—</text>
 <paragraph id="HC4929514F1BC4A2B9F62AEB363BEA6A5"><enum>(1)</enum><text>Charlie Fowler was—</text> <subparagraph id="H339A7E2075524FCF992F43C52F3B2D88"><enum>(A)</enum><text>one of the most experienced mountain climbers in North America, having successfully climbed many of the highest peaks in the world;</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H2654AF9A0138443CAA865F4CAC80CFEC"><enum>(B)</enum><text>an author, guide, filmmaker, photographer, and wilderness advocate;</text> </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H788FC216BD9843A7AE6E26913D0F7089"><enum>(C)</enum><text>the recipient of the 2004 Robert and Miriam Underhill Award from the American Alpine Club, an award that—</text>
 <clause id="HBCD8B0E6BE7C495485FBFE076FED552E"><enum>(i)</enum><text>honors outstanding mountaineering achievement; and</text> </clause><clause id="HC74F64E55DF04498BA572B0305906D55"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>is awarded annually to climbers who have <quote>demonstrated the highest level of skill in mountaineering and who, through the application of this skill, courage, and perseverance, have achieved outstanding success in the various fields of mountaineering</quote>; and</text>
 </clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H1AD4C2DEDE464328B1E476CDE215B0AD"><enum>(D)</enum><text>a summiter of several 8,000-meter peaks, specifically—</text> <clause id="H88EC405339AD4BF38EC09BD89F3F4127"><enum>(i)</enum><text>Everest;</text>
 </clause><clause id="HD78C2BCC45D34C0A8DCC50E50C77CD97"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>Cho Oyu; and</text> </clause><clause id="H058A2F32675344F18159EEFC52AC3BA8"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>Shishapangma;</text>
 </clause></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H1DD8E1E707C142F2891D39F02B5E2BAD"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Christine Boskoff—</text> <subparagraph id="H4705FD800B26458DBAA3BBAA1185F0F3"><enum>(A)</enum><text>was one of the leading female alpinists in the United States, having climbed 6 of the 14 mountain peaks in the world that are higher than 8,000 meters, specifically—</text>
 <clause id="H315293B9C176496188FF047EA4D9D7EB"><enum>(i)</enum><text>Everest;</text> </clause><clause id="H850241EFE77549939A4AA5B0796A8EE2"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>Cho Oyu;</text>
 </clause><clause id="H50B0EADCAD2F484FB8E7B220D8017E52"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>Gasherbrum II;</text> </clause><clause id="H2C15E1F70848483D8DDF9ACE6AEECAD9"><enum>(iv)</enum><text>Lhotse;</text>
 </clause><clause id="HEFCE36ACFD7B4311B7AF5B92936D0686"><enum>(v)</enum><text>Shishapangma; and</text> </clause><clause id="H78E82CA91FAB4E62A5D8EF5167A93698"><enum>(vi)</enum><text>Broad Peak;</text>
 </clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HAFFD2B698E5849FEA26A7BA3CDFE428B"><enum>(B)</enum><text>gave countless hours to nonprofit organizations that supported—</text> <clause id="H504C0CEB5204447184732453DD41C9A1"><enum>(i)</enum><text>the rights of porters and Sherpas;</text>
 </clause><clause id="H83944FAFB4A54D39B6658B40D2B60F93"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>the education of women; and</text> </clause><clause id="H646F045BC02944A8878DAE4697FA7F5B"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>global literacy and gender equality; and</text>
 </clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H41EB9EF4F2DE431A870D5618F022BBB3"><enum>(C)</enum><text>was recognized by the education communities in the United States and Nepal as a role model for students;</text>
 </subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H596ADE167C914C5780F7116FADB4C9D8"><enum>(3)</enum><text>Charlie Fowler and Christine Boskoff were long-time residents of San Miguel County, Colorado, and champions for Colorado’s pristine backcountry;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H5545F4509D5B45079E6480BDB0BC9ABC"><enum>(4)</enum><text>Charlie Fowler and Christine Boskoff died in an avalanche in November 2006 while attempting to summit Genyen Peak in Tibet;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H61833969586545B79F837A486D344A2D"><enum>(5)</enum><text>2 unnamed 13,000-foot peaks located west of Wilson Peak on the boundary of San Miguel and Dolores Counties, Colorado, offer spectacular recreational climbing and hiking opportunities; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HCEE72869DE704B9994261217048DA108"><enum>(6)</enum><text>the local community in the vicinity of the peaks described in paragraph (5) and fellow climbers propose to honor and commemorate Charlie Fowler and Christine Boskoff by naming the peaks after Charlie Fowler and Christine Boskoff.</text>
			</paragraph></section><section id="HDE5881FFB18743A98E9AA3E0FA91662C"><enum>3.</enum><header>Designation of Fowler Peak and Boskoff Peak, Colorado</header>
			<subsection id="HD8BD4ECBD68E47F689429D775BC8104E"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Designation of fowler peak</header>
 <paragraph id="H3D3FF8F1351F4FD78CAC8401256C100A"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>The 13,498-foot mountain peak, located at 37.8569° N, by −108.0117° W, in the Uncompahgre National Forest in the State of Colorado, shall be known and designated as <quote>Fowler Peak</quote>.</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H9CE4FBB9B91C4BAC9C494434D8C09824"><enum>(2)</enum><header>References</header><text>Any reference in a law, map, regulation, document, paper, or other record of the United States to the peak described in paragraph (1) shall be deemed to be a reference to <quote>Fowler Peak</quote>.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HCD511E3BE03145DA90E0358AE0FD49D8"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Designation of boskoff peak</header>
 <paragraph id="H1F77C475930846F5956F70168E25E83A"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>The 13,123-foot mountain peak, located at 37.85549° N, by −108.03112° W, in the Uncompahgre National Forest in the State of Colorado, shall be known and designated as <quote>Boskoff Peak</quote>.</text>
