<official-title display="yes">To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to clarify the rules relating to veteran health insurance and eligibility for the premium tax credit.<pagebreak/></official-title>

<section id="HBFFE291EF3AC432AA11A078FB74F3B5B" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Veterans Equal Treatment Ensures Relief and Access Now Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote>VETERAN Act</quote>. </text></section> <section id="H23123BA54FAD4BD68524D55681DA6F62"><enum>2.</enum><header>Clarification relating to veteran health insurance and eligibility for premium tax credit</header> <subsection id="H87481B9EE5F14E6782FA5E2AA510BCA1"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Amendment of pre-<enum-in-header>2020</enum-in-header> credit</header> <paragraph id="H9065164AE1594677BD07977763B571EB"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/36B">Section 36B(c)(2)(B)(i)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, prior to any amendment by section 214 of the American Health Care Act of 2017, is amended by adding at the end the following: <quote>For purposes of the preceding sentence, an individual shall not be treated as eligible for coverage described in section 5000A(f)(1)(A)(v) unless such individual is enrolled in such coverage.</quote>.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H1A1B0435FC224E8BA7189F8A94D31D30"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendment made by this subsection shall apply to taxable years ending after December 31, 2013.</text></paragraph></subsection> <subsection id="H7A6F21E2B761494CB2903DB9324A5B29"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Amendment of post-<enum-in-header>2019</enum-in-header> credit</header> <paragraph id="H20B31D2DEA5A4AAEAA98EBA426562569"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Section 36B(d) of such Code, as amended by section 214 of the American Health Care Act of 2017 and in effect for months beginning after December 31, 2019, is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>

<quoted-block-continuation-text quoted-block-continuation-text-level="subsection">For purposes of paragraph (2)(B), an individual shall not be treated as eligible for coverage described in section 5000A(f)(1)(A)(v) unless such individual is enrolled in such coverage.</quoted-block-continuation-text><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph>
